Under the direction of the American Bank- ers’ Association this movement is spreading from the Atlantic to the Pacific. This week, until Thursday, February 10th, will be Thrift Week in Seattle. This will be the starting point during which the under noted Seattle banks aid saving societies plan to open at least 5,000 new Savings Accounts. They will assist thousands of Seattle’s men and women to save systematically, to spend more wise- ly, to be more industrious, to cease living according to impractical ideals and to begin living within their incomes. Thrift Week will send the word across the Nation that Seattle has enlisted far beyond its quota in the move- ment that will be a veritable God-send to the American people. With this splendid work of teaching Thrift is starting the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of the first Savings Bank in America. After one hundred years of Savings Banks in this country, America is still eighth in the standing of nations which have savings institutions. . No nation is stronger than its individuals— and no individual can acquire real success unless Thrift is practiced. Thrift is of commanding interest and of far-reaching importance to every man, woman and child in our city National City Bank SECOND AND COLUMBIA Guardian Savings Bank 801 FIRST AVE. Seattle’s stand in this matter and her success in starting a large number of citizens on the way to Thrift, will be watched with interest by the American Bankers’ Associa- tion—than which there are few more influential and far-seeing bodies in the country, and a creditable comparison with the accomplish- ment of other cities will redound to the city’s credit in a far-reaching and substantial manner. Will you be one of those who will join the army of new savers to be enrolled during the coming week? Re- member that, while you are privileged in this way to help your city in a very real sense, you will be helping yourself to a far greater degree. At the end of a twelvemonth you will be a more substantial, more satisfied, more useful citizen. You will be in a better position to provide for the requirements of yourself and family; you will be ready for the unforeseen obligations that are bound to arise; you will be able to look into the future with a full measure of confidence. Decide now that you will take advantage of the savings service offered by one of these strong, progressive, modern Seattle banks and savings societies.
