@ RATHSKELLER PROPRIETOR CALLS PASTOR A LIAR IN COUNCIL REV. LEONARD TELLS OF CAFE ORGY The Only Paper in Seattle That Dares to Print the News VOLUME 18. NO. 99 SEA’ LE, WASH., MONDAY, JUNE 21, 1915. ONS CENT. S3 7hAihe 2h NEWS STANDS, Be N WASHINGTON there is a White House. In the White House there is a room. In that room there is a man, a desk, a type- writer—AND A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY. @ The man may sit at the desk, write a few lines, and pause. He walks to the window and in the gathering dusk watches the people—his fellow citizenss—marchine home from their daily labors. @ For on the emphasis of a word, the construction of a sentence, may hang the destiny of the world’s richest nation and the fate of a hundred million souls. Far into the night he may labor with the weight of duty he could, but would not, shirk. His type- writer clicks as he arrays in language without offense, yet not obscure in its firmness, the will of a great people as he, their spokesman, interprets it. Then, his way decided, he may rise from a few hours of restless sleep to face the criticisms of his ad- visers, the wails of the disappointed, the abuse of his enemies at hand and the spoken word of pedantic prominents all over the nation, not big enough to be above the humanness of jealousy. @, This is not one day from the life of President Wilson—it is every day. @ His critics are voluble. The people for whom he labors are silent. @ Tomorrow, let's break this silence! Let's tell the president we are with him, that we believe in him, that we are going to help him bear that responsibility. @ Let's rise and recognize that honest and courageous statesman who is unselfish enough to perceive that his supreme duty is to the people and the nation. Let's all do our part. March in the parade. Elsewhere on this page you will find particulars about where to meet. Attend the noon-day meeting at the Grand theatre. If you can’t march or go to the meeting, turn out and CHEER. If you can’t even get downtown, put a flag out in front of your home and tell your neighbors to do the same. @ Let's all get together for a day and demonstrate our loyalty and firm belief in Woodrow Wilson, president. LET'S BREAK DOWN PARTY LINES AND THANK GOD WE'VE GOT SUCH A MAN ON THE JOB IN WASHINGTON!
