Charge of the Building Inspection Department having supervision of all matters concerning, relating to or af fecting the construction, repair, removal or maintenance of all buildings or structures erected or to be erected, including elevators, plumbing, signs and billboards, Duties of the Office Engineer under the Commisstoner of Public Works are: 1, Charge of all engineering work required by the city In each of its departments, To get the best results and prevent as much as possible the overlapping of duties by the several subdepartments, a general division has been made as follows A—OFFICE AND ADMINISTRATION Comprising the contro! of organization, the designing of engineering work, estimating costs and calculating quan titles, the preparation of contracts, specifications and plans, the establishment of stan s and methods, the supervision of surveys, the recording of plats, t aration of record maps and profiles, corresponde counting, assessments, issuing of permits, attending to complaints, ete. B—MAINTENANCE. The work comprised hereunder consists of the super- vision, care and repatr of all bridges, sidewalks, streets, lanes, pathways, alleys, public levees, sewer and street and sewer cleaning. All of this work ts {n charge of the Engineer of Streets and Sewers, except the maintenance of bridges, which {s looked after by the Superintendent of bridges. C—CONSTRUCTION. Comprising the control and supervision of all construc tion work of an engineering rature, whether paid for by assessment, direct tax levy or by bond issues, that may be required by each of the departments of the city.
