CLOUDY TONIGHT AND FRIDAY, PROF a i Every one of the 50 newspapers with which The Star is affiliated yesterday told the people of as i many cities that Uncle Sam's coal in Alaska is of high quality and easily marketed. SE In addition, The Star caused to be transmitted over the wires of the United Press the same infor- mation to the 600 newspapers throughout the United States served by that news gathering agency. i The intelligence so transmitted to millions of newspaper readers throughout the country will serve ; i the purpose intended by The Star—the creating of a public sentiment that will force through congress the legislation needed for the development of Alaska’s greatest resource, according to the plan outlined | by The Star some weeks ago. ot To the people of Seattle, the fact that government experts, sent by the navy department of the United - States to investigate, had filed reports showing the Mantanuska coal to be of a superior quality, and in within shipping distance of one of the best deep water harbors in Alaska, is of the greatest concern. io- Ay, Once Before, in Heat of London’s Great Food || Strike, Boalt Saw Tom Mann, English Leader of 1\ Labor; Now Hears Him Talk at the rsity Unive RICH AUTOMOBILIST JAILED; BOND REFUS 3ABLY RAIN; LIGHT EASTERLY WINDS i) = 4 fi = ) } i Wise Up, friends, Wise Up! |} Only 40,000 Daily! vou find the straight goods on the editor il [ OLUME 15 THE ONLY PAPER IN SEATTLE THAT DARES TO PRINT THE NEWS. Si.wa'teasne. 6c EDITION. | Ii STAR TELLS WORLD OF ALASKA’S COAL: GETS |]650 NEWSPAPERS TO BOOSTING FOR SEATTLE EVERY DOLLAR SENT INTO ALASKA AND EVERY DOLLAR TAKEN OUT OF ALASKA— WHETHER IT BE FOR COAL OR GOLD, FOR FISH OR FOR FURS—MEANS AN ADDED AD- VANCEMENT IN THE MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT OF THIS CITY. The development of the coal fields means more than this. It means not only direct material ad- vancement because of the opening up of a big, new industry directly tributary to Seattle, but it means cheaper fuel for the homes and for the factories. The Star’s plan to secure the co-operation of all of its affiliated newspapers to the end that needed legislation may be secured, has been given a wonderful impetus by the developments of yesterday, and none of the advantage was lost because of any lack of energy in scattering broadcast the information that Alaska has beneath its crust of golden soil a world’s supply of high grade coal.
