More than 40,000 copies of The Star are sent every day into the homes of Seattle and vicinity. It’s all bona-fide, paid circulation. The latch-string’s out. Advertisers. can come any time and see the books. HOME EDITION In reply to The Star’s campaign for cheaper rates, the gas trust has run to the other papers in Seattle. It has bought up large quantities of advertising space to exploit its virtues. In doing this, the gas trust is not even original. It is but following in the footsteps of the Furth elec- tric monopoly. When The Star made the demand for ade- quate service, decent accommodations, transfer privileges, sale of tickets on street cars, etc., the Furth concern hurried to the other papers, and ions to this day, it is still buying space in them. hude But The Star made the fight for the people (00 and has won out in a number of notable in- ~~ stances. It forced the Furth company to treat » 42 | the traveling public with a decency that could P; | mot have been imagined a few years ago. It | forced the sale of tickets on the cars, thereby R | saving to the people at least $100,000 a year. . And The Star is in the fight to make the ¥ gas trust give Seattle a square deal on gas rates. c | The gas company is a public utility. It makes 4 | its profits off the people.
