R., TAFT, ARE ONE- TWO-THREE IN IOWA STATE BY GILSON GARONER DES MOINES, Ia., Oct. 10.—-The political situation In Iowa is sadly scrambled, : ‘The race ls generally admitted to be between Wilson and Roosevelt, with Taft running third. There are three full tickets in the field—democratic, republican and bull moose, ‘The democrats are sincerely confident, basing their hopes of victory on the theory that the normal republican majority of 70,000 will be obliterated by the division in the republican ranks. The only chance for Roosevelt to defeat the democratic hopes is for him to poll a vote greatly in excess of Taft's and to draw some on the democratic vote The few polls which have been taken are conclusive of only one thing—Taft’s weakness. They favor both Roosevelt and Wilson. Taft has been thrown overboard by Senators Cummins and Kenyon, by both candidates for governor (George E. Clark, regular republican, and John L. Stevens, bull moose), by, all candidates for state and other local offices, by all candidates for congress, and even by the regular republican state committee. His only representatives in the state are members of a socalled “provisional committee” appointed by C, D. Hilles. . Senator Kenyon has not officially repudiated Taft, but he is mak- ing his campaign for re-election to the senate without mention of Taft or any allusion to national issues. He is working solely for a repub Mean state legislature, which would carry out the primary Instructions to send him back to the senate. The democratic candidate against Kenyon is Dan Hamilton, formeriy member of congress. The republican candidate for governor, George KE. Clark, was nomi- nated as a progressive and says he stands for everything in the Roose velt platform. It is understood that he Intends to vote for Roosevelt, but he is not willing, while remaining republican candidate for governor, to officially repudiate Taft, BIG REALTY GATHERING IS ON HERE TODAY Real estate men from all parts of the state are talking real estate Stuart's Calcium Wafers to each other in Seattle today.
