Atwood is 27 years old, a native of Boston. He teaching himself the art of operating an aeroplane less four months ago. Without the aid of an instructor, he be the most proficient master of the aeroplane in the United Atwood first attracted attention when he appeared over the Harvard races, a few months ago. He then startled the country, July 1, by flying from New on, Conn., to New York city, circling the tower of the Singer ing, and then sweeping over the skyscraper district of New fork and landing on Governors island, in New York bay. On this he carried Edward Fleet, his mechanic, as a passenger. He was the first aviator to attempt a flight over an American tropolitan city.
