Over in Tacoma the other day two men assembled, and without any authority from the great body of progressive publicans in this state they elected S. A. Perkins, a rabid special interest advocate, ag national committeeman, to succeed the late R. McCormick, the Weyerhaeuser timber baron. A third man, O. C. Moore, Poindexter’s partner, was in- vited to attend the meeting, but when he discovered the scheme of the two standpatters, he walked out. So one Coiner, standpatter and office seeker of Tacoma, and one Hopkins, Perkins’ too! m Olympia, elected Perkins com- mitteeman. Of course, the people will pay no attention to what these standpatters did the other day—-no more than they did to that convention, held in Tacoma a year ago, out of the party, praised Taft and tariff. The people had gothing to do with the selection of the dele- gates to that convention. The party bosses appointed them and instructed them to do what the party bosses wanted. They did it, and they thought they would fool somebody into thinking that this great state was still in the old special interest standpat column, but a primary election came on—then it happened. ‘The people calmly ignored the standpat conven-|s me Morocean seacoast througn Groat Britain's bold stand and the result, ing sareement, in pitosiols, which has been reached ween France and Germany ts expected here to- day to result in the resignations of || Chanceller Von Bethmann-Holl weg and Foreign Von Kider- lin-Waechter, It ie declared that the kalker compelled his ministers to yleld to France and to recede from part of their demands “SUICIDE " THE VERDICT.
