BIG STRAW VOTE THE SEATTLE STAR INDICATES DEMOCRATS WON'T HAVE LANDSLIDE IN NEXT CONGRESS (ity United Pres.) NEW YORK, Oct, 19,--Contro! af the next congress hinges on the re Bult in 18 districts and the outcome is likely to be so close in these that the official.count will be needed to decide. This prediction is made by Suc cess Ma ine, as the result of its confide canvass of 15,000 of its Hfe subscribers scattered through out every section of the United States. Two years ago this ma zine in the same way predicted ¢ election of Pres. Taft, its poll of the states agreeing absolutely with the official count except in Missourt, which it gave to Bryan, but at the time insisting that the issue was very doubtful there. when the official count was avail able that it was found that the state had actually gone for Taft 15,000 People Voted. The present poll was arrived at by sending ballots to 25,000 of the fe subseribers. Ans 8 were re- ceived from 15,000 and they present an amazing picture of the senti ment in the country at large, It is shown that where the reactionaries won out in the fight for renomina tion their majorities are such that ft would require a landslide to oust them. Where the insurgents won they robbed the democrats of thetr paramount issues, downward revis fon of the tariff and Cannonism This is especially the case in the Middle West and on the Pacific coast. The result of the poll indicates that 160 congressional districts are safely republican, 168 safely demo cratic, 29 probably republican and ty democratic. This being true, two parties would be tied with 189 each and the remaining 18 districts would hinge control of the house. These districts are The Doubtful Districts.
