It is not, therefore, so much in the spirit of self-congratulation, but rather the carrying out of what we believe is our bounden duty to the people of this fair section, that we announce Mr. Edward E. Horgan has been elected Vice-President of this Company and is now its active manager. Merchandising has long since ceased to be mere barter or exchange. Today it is a factor of un- questioned prominence in the harmonizing and welding together of all that is best in our social structure. It is clearly educational in the highest degree. Therefore, it behooves the merchant to not only always be up and doing, but to be jealous of his reputation and to be ever seeking the attainment of the highest ideals. Pronounced and apparent to all is the accomplished success of this store. It has grown and flourished, but we know that there is a still higher and greater success awaiting us. YO U WI L ‘ SE Many changes here before long, but you can rest assured that they are evidences of a more vigorous and determined effort to deserve the “Supreme Success” which we are certain to enjoy. First of all we will dispose quickly of the fallacious argument that it is necessary for the economical buyer to put up with squalid and inconvenient surroundings in order to obtain the lowest prices on mer- chandise. We have a beautiful store—a comfortable store—and an up-to-date store. It was builded for all the people. Therein lies its tremendous supremacy over ordinary stores, and we cannot be too em- phatic in declaring at the outset that we will take advantage of every detail of its immeasurable physical opportunities. We will increase our sales and increase them in a fashion unprecedented. By sheer force of low prices and high quality we will distribute our merchandise to all the people in all localities. WE PRO M | S E YO That prices for like merchandise will be lower than Seattle people have ever known. The masterful method of merchandising that will be employed will compel the patronage of all classes of this community and will make the MacDou- gall & Southwick Company the most aggressive and progressive store in the west. We realize that it is no inconsiderable task to fully and completely carry out the plans which we have conceived for the further upbuilding of this business. However, every nook and corner of this establishment is permeated with that fine Seattle spirit which knows no failure, and which, by its very enthusiasm, spells success before it starts. SN Progress is no new thing with us, but such progress as we will create from now on will be unpar- alleled, and a most impressive compliment to the intelligence of this community. You will find further unfolding of our plans and practical demonstrations of our progressiveness if you will read our “ads” in the daily papers. Respectfully, The MacDougall & Southwick Co.
