Marion was un- | covered an audacious and extensive scheme to steal | the election for Hi Gill. Hundreds of floaters were to cast their ballots for Gill in the Fifth ward. To Hurley was given the work of registering these il- legal voters and of paying them for casting their bal- lots for Gill. Before the scheme was brought to a sudden | close by Hurley’s arrest some 75 illegal voters had been registered by Hurley under orders from Gill’s backers. The arrest of Hurley at 9 o'clock last night was the result of days and nights of hard, intelligent work by Detective Marion. Hurley was arrested in the Colonnade Hotel bar, which was one of the places at which the Gill floaters were colonized. Marion was assisted in the arrest by Special Detect- ive Walter Thayer.
