JUDGES ERR IN PLACING. HORSES Mistake in Colors Hurt the| Bookies—Bad Tangle Saturday in Finish of Third Race. Whenever there is a close finish tm a race between two horses there aro alw number of persona who diapu the correctness of the Judges’ decision, but Saturday the odd spectacle was witnessed of the | officials placing a horse third that Was apparently beaten by four or five lengths for the third place. This happened at the finish of the third race Saturday when Coaset was placed third by the judges when it looked to a large number | the grandstand, and to nearly every. one who stood opposite the finish fine, that Achieve was third and that Cosset had finished several Jemgths back. The only explanation that can be made is that on account of the similarity of the colors and Imability to see the number on the Gaddie cloth that the officials were confused and placed the wrong horse third. Achieve ran In the colors of Sam Hildreth, diack, blue sleeves and white sash, while Cosset bore the colors of W. EB. Applegate, white, ue sleeves, black cap.
