Still clinging to the hope that their efforts to make a failure of the public market may yet be suc cessful, Western av. commission | me ve changed their tactics, put their heads together again and have started a new scheme whereby they hope to get back the old trade and sting the public. But they did want their allies, the peddlers, who purchased the inferior fruits from them, to The police drove the latter from the market. The better class of hucksters were unable to obtain the California fruit, When all the hucksters were gradually pushed to the lower end of the market until their positions were practically worthless one or two farmers went to the combine and asked if it was not possible to have foreign pro- duce on the market so that the public could buy all their supplies at the market. They were refused. In order to einch their proposition the commission men attempted to make arrangements with Yakima and W ri tchee farmers to ship the valley fruits direct to them, offer- ing to buy it all. But the farmers got abead of them and tomorrow @ carload of valley fruit arrives in Seattle and will be taken direct to the public market to be disposed of at a price smaller than asked for by Western av. One more effective step has been taken by farmers anxioun to main- tain the success of the market. No matter what price will be asked by Western ay. this winter for butter and eggs, the ranchers will go one better and sell dairy products five cents less than the standard price, This was discussed and decided upon by the farmers yesterday = <a ee TAFT SAILS ON When majestically FAVOR PASSAGE OF RAT ORDINANCE the Minnesota »« the med t out from Gr | Northern dock this afternoon, Sec | retary of War William H.
