Last night the Central Labor Council adopted the report of its special committee, which deplored the proposed advent of the Milwaukee in the watershed in these words “Your committee is unanimously of the opinion that dan- ger of pollution of thecity's water supply would result from the presence of any railway tracks down the valley of the Cedar river, and that a great mistake would be made if the city allows it, except upon the theory that there .is absolutely no other available entrance t o the city, upon which point your commit- tee pleads ignorance.” The labor committee then went on to state that in case it is found that no other route exists, the road should not be per mitted to follow its present survey at all along the south bank of the river, but should be obliged to take a course much fur- ther away from the water on the north bank, that the city should not sell the right of way to the road, but retain owner- ship and direct control, and that it should not move the intake up stream, because of the resulting loss of a large volume of water. Mr, Frederick Bausman, the spokesman of the Chamber of Commerce water committee, who yesterday argued the case for the Milwaukee so energetically, did .not think it worth while, when out on Cedar river recently, to have either the ex- pert advice of the engineers or the doctors in the party The editor of The Star was one of the party of investigat- ors, which made the trip, and this is what he saw: The Chamber of Commerce committee, with President Williams, Railroad Attorney E. C.
