She now has the undisturbed pos- reasion and legal custody of her two daughters, Charlotte, aged 15, and Ruth, a winsome miss of 7 years. Both daughters were award- ed her Thursday morning by Judge Gilliam, along with a decree of di- voree from Thomas Shuffleton The pair were married in St. Paul in 1888, and lived with comparative about three years ago, when Shut- fleton left bis wife and ran off with the children. Judge Gilliam, after hearing the evidence, promptly granted the de leree and made an order awarding the children to the mother. Seattle Is Chosen For the Convention City The board of trustees of the/Chapman, the evangelist, a member United Society of Christian En- deavorers has already decided that the 1907 convention shall come to Seattle, and when the board arrives in this city in November it will formally vote to bring the conven- tion here. This statement was made Thurs- day afternoon by C. H. Reeves, president of the local branch of the societ,, who had just returned from the convention in Baltimore. When the vote was taken at the conven- tion Seattle was abead and Kansas City second, but no decision was made at that time, out of deference to the Los Angeles contingent. The latter would have made a_ bitter fight against Seattle had the an- nouncement then been made. The Kansas City girls themselves went a long way in putting that city in a bad light in the eyes of the board of trustees, it is said. While the board was considering the matter in executive session, the girls repeatedly and enthusiastically stormed the chamber with yells of the college order. The affair oc curred in the Belvidere hotel about midnight, or later, and the be- havior of the female contingent from the the Missouri metropolis is said to have left a bad impres- sion on the decorous members of the board. The hot weather that prevails in Kansas City during the summer also had a negative effect. Since his return Mr. Reeves has received a letter from J.
