CHICAGO, It, May 19.—An official seal which suggests ot! in any manner, shape or form will not do for the University of Chicago. Just what its founder, John D. Rockefeller, will think of this is not known, but the Midway school has de cided ‘that the ‘varsity seal must not be suggestive of Standard OL This peculiar deci« was made by Dr. Thomas Good- speed, who is acting as judge to select an official seal for the university. Each of eleven de signe submitted contained a lamp of learning, and it was the lamp that caused them to be rejected. A student's lamp would be of littie use without oll, and the Standard Ot] Com pany furnishes most of the necessary fluid. It was this interpretation of the lamp that caused Professor Goodspeed to look with disfavor on the seals and set the artists to work on new designs. The professor decided that the lamp would subject the school to many jests on the old subject, and decreed that the lamp of learning should have no place on the seal dada dn dndindndndndinandiniadied cXPERTS WAR ON PLAGUE.
