Cringing with fear of retribution if they did not pay their obligation to the influences which put them in office, the craven aldermen voted for a meaSure which vio- lates at least three provisions of the city charter. In the first place, IT GRANTS A LICENSE THE SAME EVENING THAT IT WAS INTRODUCED IN THE COUNCIL. In the second place, IT GRANTS A LICENSE TO SELL BEER OUTSIDE OF THE ESTABLISHED SALOON LIMITS. In the third place it allows the sale of intoxicating liquors in a place that is bound to be frequented by minors, a thing that is specifically prohibited by the city charter. If this license is allowed to stand on the books every law-abiding citizen of Seattle should Boyeott the Mardi-Gras Carnival, {01 10 parents want their children debauched by the sight of the drunkenness and orgies that will follow the fulfillment of this agreement between the breweries and their hirelings in the city council.
