Y., Nov. 4.—One hundred men are re- | ported to have been killed on Iona island as the result of a ter rific explosion of hundreds of tons of gunpowder, this after- noon. The island is a government naval station in the Hudson, where the government has stored immense quantities of pow- der caped, according to a report received here. One of the principal maga zines exploded at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Fifteen or sixteen men are reported to have been killed outright in the first explosion. The storehouse then caught fire. The flames spread rap- idly and developed into a terrible catastrophe.
