The offigiais of the penitentiary at Salem have demanded the famous 30-30 Winchester rifle, and this will be sent to them, while the ether weapons of the murderer will fall to the lot of the five men who were most instrumental in the death of the convict. Aug. 7—-The body of Harry Tracy, the Oregon outlaw, will probably be cremated. In order to effec tually circumvent the plane of rupulous speculators who are already planning to gain possession of the desperado’s corpse by fair means or foul, with intent to use it for exhibition purpose the Oregon authorities, it is stated on good authority, have all but desided to cremate the remains at Portland immediately after their arrival from Davenport, in thie state, where they now li it is practionily admitted that Tracy's body will not remain under ground twelve hours after it is buried unless extraordinary precautions are taken to guard the grave against ghouls. Only interment in quick lime after the fashion that prevailed in pris ons of the ciden times will prevent the grave from being rifled before the clods have settled upon the coffin. Men who make it their business to pander to the curiosity of the morbid ard already in the field seoking to buy the outlaw’ corps, ostensibly in the interests of obscure medical college * $15,000 are reported from Davenport. Un questionably if the authorities would permit the exhibition of the body, this sum could ly be real in Portiand or Seattle lone. On every apparently well balanced individuals can y $1 or even more for a glimpse of the remains. € ld be determined to give Tracy’s remains an or dinary Christian burial, it is more than doubtful whether any cemetery would accept the body, which would therefore have to be buried in uneonseor: Ground at Galem. The difficulty by which the relatives of Durrant, Francisce fiend who hanged for the murder of Lamont, were confronted with, is well remembered, No regular cemetery in Cal a would accept the bedy, nor would the ory in San Francisco burn it, Finally it was cremated na.
