Biwell PARK LINE TRESTLE WORK DEMANDED BY BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS As ® rewult of the trip of inves- tigation through Woodland Park, made by the parke and boulevards » of the council yesterday. Electric company will be compelled to build tts ugh the park on tres tle work e company some time ago applied permission to go through the park, which was grant ed by the council, Last Saturday the company filed plans with the board of public works showing the manner of proposed construct The plans provided exte ot Parks Little ob jected vigorously on the ground that & Une built in thie manner would mar the beauty of the park and in terfere with the laying out of walks und driveways through the park. At his suggestion the committes, slong with the Seattle Electric company's representatives, made the trip of in spection yesterday. Chiet Engineer Blackwell, who was present to represent the elec trie company, outlined his plans for & surface line to the committee. Will Bulld Treaties The majority of the committee disagreed with his views, deciding that the overhead road waa the only feasible method. Mr. Blackwell, finding himself in the minority, finally agreed to con- went to the trestle work, provided that the board of public should allow the company to use wooden trestle work. It was explained that ow to the great difficulty in procuring steel it would be impossible to build the extension this year, It was agreed to allow the use of wood, with the provision that the work should be replaced with steel within two years, The present plan is to start the trestle work about 60 feet south of the limits of the park. At the eum mit of the hill in the park the line will run on the surface for some distance and then, taking the tres- tle, will follow dn to nearly the north park limits. Here it runs across an arm of the lake to the present terminus of the Green Lake line. As soon as a report has been made by the parks committee, the board of public works will grant the per mit for the construction. ‘The com- pany is destrous of getting to work as s00n as possible and hope to have the line in operation ¥ in July. pede “ Bafety, Comfort, Speed Via the fast steamer Inland Flyer to the Battleship Oregon and navy yard today.
