We deposited with Mr. A. M. Brooks $1,000.00, agreeing that in case our challenge was accepted and our claim proven untrue, the check for $1,000.00 was to be given to charity. The only condition we exacted was that the person accepting the challenge should also put up an equal amount. Our Challenge Was Not Accepted The public is therefore left to judge whether or not our claim was * legitimate one. One feature of our challenge was that the amount of money involved was to be forfeited to charity by the loser. Having offered the amount ($1,000.00) in good faith and being prepared in case of an unfavor- able decision to donate to charity the $1,000, we feel that we should in fair- ness be willing to give the amount to charity, in spite of the fact that our challenge was not accepted. .We believe that we had a full $1,000 worth of benefit from the advertisement, and acting on this belief we yesterday do- nated to the Seattle General Hospital and Providence Hospital $500 each for charity beds, In turning over to these worthy institutions these amounts have we stipu- lated only that each hospital is to maintain for one year a bed free to be known as the Majestic Bed. We wish to further say that we believe that every user of a Majestic Range in this city has contributed to these donations as it has been through their purchases that the gifts have been made possible. The following acknowledgments are self-explanitory : : PROVIDENCE HOSPITAL Seattle General Hospital Beattle, Wash., 119-01, Frederick & Nelson, City. Gentiemen,—We beg to acknow!l- edge receipt thia day of your check, No. 3262 on the Boston National Bank for $500.00, said sum to be ex- pended for maintenance of a charity bed in our hospital for one year. Please accept our deep gratitude and thanks for your generous gift, Respectfully, SISTER BUC . Superior. N. B. Seattle, Wash., 11-98-01, Frederick & Nelson, City, Gentlemen,—It is with sincere pleasure and deep thankfulness we acknowledge the munificent gift of Frederick & Nelson of $500.00 for the maintenance of a free bed in the Se- attlé General Hospital, It 18 certainly a wise use of money and will surely be a blessing to many. Very sincerely, DORA ADRON, For the Management. We especially desire the public to bear in mind that our original challenge offer was an advertising proposition pure and simple, and that we simply feel in donating this $1,000. to the hospitals we are only fairly return ing to charity what, under the circumstances, should be given to that purpose.
