LQUID AIR FACTORY Established in New York City. It is useful both as @ refrigerant and as a motive power, The air produced is at a temperature of 312 degrees below aero. Mr. Ostergren ts now devising @ system for cooling dwelling hous- es and hospitals by distributed lique fied air by means cfa fan. The pro duct may also be used as an explos- tve. The air to be lquefied is taken through @ stand-pipe from above the roof of the factory, and after being washed and fittered is compressed until the gauge shows a p ure of 1200 degrees. This pressure make beat, so the compressed alr, after be ing cooled by passing it through the coils of @ pipe immersed in water, | ts permitted to escape into a cham- der where it expands instantly and turns to Hquid, which can be drawn from a receiver under the chamber. The air which does not liquefy. passes again through the system and cools the incoming air, so that by | ie cireulation the temperature ir kept below 212 degrees, at which tem-/ perature compreesed alr becomes quid. This process can be kept up for an indefinite period. GOOD CROPS NOW ASSURED Rain Came at the Time the Wheat Most Needed it.
