Riley Hardin Is Senmt to Jail in Nevada Promineni Clubman in This City Fined and Imprisoned for Fencing Land (SPECIAL DISPATCH TO THE CALL RENO, Ney., Jan. Riley Hardin, member of the Bohemian and Pacific Union clubs, as well as one of the popular .social favorites of San Francisco, stood before United States Judge Farrington in the federal court at Carsof today and pleaded guilty to fllegally fencing the public domain, throwing himsel upon the mercy of the court. Sentence was at once pro- nounced. Hardin was fined $1,000 and sentenced to serve 24 hours in the county jail at Winnemucca. In charge of Deputy United States Marshal Leopold Stern the convicted man arrived in Reno tonight en route to prison in Humbaldt county. A num: ber of friends, including James Den- nis, leading republican politician of Nevada, accompanied Hardin as far as ‘Winnemucca. With ' good behavior Hardin will be allowed sufficient cred- its to give him an opportunity to com- plete his sentence without sleeping in jail tomorrow night. The fine has al- ready been paid. { Hardin's conviction is the last of a zeries of sensational land fraud cases at Carson within the last two weeks. J. Hogan, a saflor of the cruiser Des Molines, in hav- ing a fracture of the jaw reduced. Hogan had his jaw fractured in a football game between teams from rival ships playing at Boston navy vard.
