I feared that it might be a case {of surface enrichment only, but we |have found that the value increases with depth and that the broken con- |dition of the ledges near the surface | gave way with little depth, showing | everything ‘in place. The values at {the 110-foot level in the Sphinx are 50 per cent better than at a depth of 65 feet and everything points to permanency.” | Weber is equally sanguine over the| future of the district. The Sphinx mine is on the same ore belt as the| | Sunnyside, from which $50,000 was taken out by dry washing last fall. | RICH SURFACE INDICATIONS | Red Mountain ana Wild Horse Springs Are Promising t GOLDFIELD, Feb. 21.—TIn the eastern | part of the,Goldfleld district, near the Wild Horse Springs and Red Mountain, an amount of mining activity is under way which equals anything in this | section. The surface Indications there |are even better than in the neighbor- hood of the great Mohawk and other mines more centrally located, and | the ledges are of greater size and con- | tinulty. The Shay property of twenty- |five claims, the Los Angeles Frank MecDonaid Company with eighteen | claims, the Nancy Donaldson, Red Boy, | Black Bird, Goldfleld, Hercules, New | Jersey Goldfield, Overfield Goldfield, Eddie Goldfield, Happy Hunch #nd others, including the Lucky Star, back | of which are the Alaska Treadwell, Gould: pedple, are all sinking or pros- pecting -on a large scale. The Big Ledge group, adjoining the Hercules and near the Nancy Donaldson, has just | been sola by R. L. Ritchie, who has |had the property under option, to wealthy New York operators. A town- Isite will be established below the | springs. i J e | GOLDFIELD 18 DESCRIBED | | | Comprehensive View of Achievements and Conditions Is Published | The second annual edition of the| Goldfield News furnishes a comprehen- | sive review of the Goldfield mining dis- trict. Many facts are given, sufficient for the general information of all con- | cerned about Goldfield mining. Thers| are special articles by Judge J. W. | Deane, Walter Prescott and others, | sketches of the men who are prominent | in development of the mining industry and a great variety of pictures illus-| trative of scenes in the great gold| region of Nevada. The whole constitutes what might be‘ termed fairly an encyclopedia of Gold- field's marvelous progress to date. The | | number is handsomely made up in all| regards. SUNRISE CLAIMS ARE SOLD | Rosebud Property That Adjoins Pow- hatan Is Purchased GOLDFIELD, Feb. 21.—The Sunrise !xroup of claims adjoining the Pow- | hatan at Rosebud, which has become famous on account of the rich sur- face showing, has been purchasea by Dave Kennedy and brother of Goldfield for $12,000. Kennedy and his brother, who were already interested in the dis- trict, are experienced mining men. The | fact that they paid such a price for a| mere prospect upon which only the ‘locatlon work had been performed, | speaks well for the district and the ground involved. The Sunrise group is & near neighbor of the Brown Palace and Dreamland, two mines which have attracted attention to the Rosebud country.
