R, May 30.—Strikers are seriously inxerlrflnf with work on the sugar plantations in the Arecibo district. The police are handling the situation with much. difficulty. The rican Federation of Labor asserts 1t the police are belng used to intim- idate the strikers. President Gompers of the American Federation of Labor is sending financial aid to the strikers. As a policeman was taking a prisoner to the Arecibo jail today he passed a labor meeting, a speaker of which urged the crowd to release the striker. An attack was made, and in the con- fiict the policeman was wounded and a striker was killed. The American Federation of Labor will send a pro- test to President Roosevelt, through President Gompers.
