NEW OLYMPIG GLUB [5 OPEN Cheerful Gathering at the Headquarters at 1050 Eddy Street. The mmbm of the Olympic Clubd opened their temporary home at 1030 Eddy street Saturday night with in- The organizations which suffered by the recent fire to re-establish itself in con- fortable or, more properly speaking. |luxurious quarters. | With one accord the members give all the credit for their present advan- |tageous position to President Willlam |Greer Harrison, whose untiring energy | and initiative made It possible. Dur- | ing the proceedings on Saturday even- y!ng Captain Max Rosenfeld called for |three cheers for Harrison. They were given with a will and the honored offi- clal sald it was the sweetest music he had heard ‘n many days. Mr. Harrison was In particularly happy vein when he addressed the members. He spoke of the new bufld- ing as the members’ country club in which they were summering pending Some neécessary repairs to their city home. He was glad to see so large a gathering and assured then of a pelly good time In their summer home. | He praised the members for the spirit | they have shown In their recent troubles, each saying to the other “you're a Jolly good fellow.” He praised their manliness, strength and courage and sald it made him love the club more than at any other time in , | 1ts history. He awelt upon the universal brother- {hood of man’ which was so plainly iI- lustrated In the trying times of the last month. Such splendid comrade- ship as was displayed here shows that the spirit of '49 Is the spirit of the men, women and children of 1906. He said it had no parallel in all the history of the world. There was no weeping, no hysterfa. The sympathy, the good breeding, the gentleness cnas acterized all classes. He belleved the Inheritance would be a splendid one for the children. He said he would not have missed the last thirty days in San Francisco for anything. Noth~ ing in the world had so sublimated his faith in mankind. The power and the glory of the spirit, he saild, could not be described, but it would make of San Francisco and the Olympic Clud something of which the whole world would be proud. Paul Cowles sald that in the search for a suitable home for the club Har-- rison had proved the most Youthful man 6n the board of directors. He told of the facllities for the members and sald it was intended to pipe salt water to the Louse for bathing pur- poses. He also announced that the dining and other privileges of the club had been extended the members of the Bohemian, Pacific-Union, Cosmoe. Family, University and Press clubs. Phil Bolger made the hit of the night In a quaint speech in which he said they were a lot of chumps 'n Herculaneum for not rebullding after the efty had fallen: Al Coney, chief of the Dipsea In- dians, spoke for the outdoor athletes. the recent disaster complimenting the people of the city on their splendid courage. He spoke of the Otrm Club as the most cosmopolitan, most ‘bohemian, in all the world, saying fire cannot destroy nor earthquake shake asunder such 5 splendid organization. Judge J. C. B.*Hebbard and others
