Systematically Rob the Firm for Six Months DETECTED IN THE ACT St g Harry Blair, One of Pair, Is Caught Trying to Re- move a Bundle of Loot Harry A. Blair and Alfred Bosse, clerks in the employ of Payot, Upham & Co., were arrested yesterday by De- tectives Harper and Armstrong, and charged with systematically robbing the firm for nearly six months. Blair was captured as he was trying to smuggle out $25 worth of fountain pens. Harper and Armstrong have traced up over $100 worth of miscel- laneous stationer’s articles that have been taken and sold by the pair. Blair is 24 years old and has been in the employ of the firm for nearly three vears. Bosse is 19 and has been in its service for nine months. The men have been under suspicion for several weeks. I O. Upham, one of the firm, said: “We have been missing articles more or less valuable for six months. Fin- ally we came to the conclusion that it must be some one in the store and ap- plied to the local police. I told the de- tectives my reasons for suspecting Blair and Bosse and they soon learned that the pair had been working to- gether for some time. Today they caught Blair red-handed.” The young men were booked at the City Prison on charges of petty lar- ceny. Warrants were sworn to before Judge Conlan by I. O. Upham. 5 - Minnle B. STORER STIL ILL ¥ Ve Indisposition of Diplomat Simplifies the Situation Re- sulting From» His Recall ASSISTANT IN CHARGE Austrian Government Not Notified by the Recent Em- bassador of His Return —— VIENNA, April 3.—Foreign Minister Go- luchowski returned to Vienna on Sunday, but no official step with reference to the recall of American Embassador Storer has yet been taken. Official circles, which at first acquiesced In the suggestion from Washington that pending the change in the embassy here diplomatic business be- tween Austria-Hungary and the United States be transacted in Washington, are now pointing out that this is somewhat impracticable, because small questions al- ways are pending beiween the embassy and the Foreign Office, making direct communication advisable. Storer is still confined to his room. He has not yet officially notified the Foreign Office of his return to Vienna, and so long | as this is not done presumably he will not | be regarded as the American Embassador, | for before Storer started for Egypt he of- E ficially notified the Foreign Office that he | was leaving Secrétary Rives as Charge d’Affaires, and this nptification has not been rescinded. An officer of the imperial household called on Monday to see Storer, but he was not admitted, being informed that Storer was not able to receive any one. —_——————— UNIDENTIFIED MAN ENDS LIFE IN GOLDEN GATE PARK | Fires Two Bullets, One Entering Behind the Right Ear and the Other Under His Heart.
