Newsboy, ATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1906. | Alfrea BODY OF KING TAKEN TO TOMS Funeral Procession of Late Danish Monarch Passes Through Capital Streets REMAINS AT ROSKILDE Royal Relatives of Chris- tian and Representatives of the Powers Present - COPENHAGEN, Feb. 16.—The body of King Christian removed from the Christianborg Church hLere to-day to the Cathedral at Roskilde, where it will be buried on Sun among the tombs of the Danish Kings, who for a thousand years have found their last resting place in the ancient capital of the kingdom. The whole of Ccpenhagen was given up to mourning. Business and wo: were at a standstill, while emblems of sorrow were displayed everywhere. The enurmous crowds of townspcople, garbed in black, swelled by thousands of arriv als from the country districts, thronged the square in front of the Christianborg Church and the route thence to the rail- way station from early morning, stand- ing patiently for hours in order ‘to pay a last tribute to the dead monarch. The windews all along the route were fllled with spectators who paid high prices for seats. Most of the owners of such places of vantage announced their intention of deveting to charlty, in memory of King Chrigtian, the prcceeds of the sale of seats. Shortly before noon the Kings of Den- mark, Greece znd Norway, Queen Alex- andra of England, the Dowager Empre: of Russia other royal relatives of the deceased, snd the representatives of for- the Christian- eigy eigns reached burg Church, where a brief service was held. At the conclusion of the service | the coffin, covered with the Danish stand- ard, was borne high by naval and mili tary ofticers to the waiting hearse. Then headed by infantry and cavalry, a simple cortege was formed and slowly proceed- ed throuzh three and a half miles of strects between the church and the rail- | road station. Immediately behind the | hearse was led King Christian's favorite riding horse, Jussuen, which was shot tu-night, according to tha ancient Danish custom. The procession was closed with riages bearing the male members of royal families represented at the funeral. The bells of all the churches were tolled and minute guns were fired from the ar- senal throughout the progress of the cor- tege and until the cofiin was placed on the funcral train. This was the first time in history that the bodv of a Danish King has been transferred by ra ad to the | piace. At the time of the death of Fred- | erick VII. the predecessor of King Chris- tian in 1863, the use of a railroad train for the conveyance of the King's body to Roskilde was not considered sufficiently dignifizd. [ WARSHIPS TO ENFORCE DEMAND BY ENGLAND Will Expel Turkish Froops From Port on Sinai Peninsula. LONDON, Feb. 16.—The British cruiser Diana has been ordered to Tabah, a port upon the Turko-Egyptian frontier of ‘the Sinal peninsula, i to enforce tr British-Egyptian demands for its speedy evacuation by the Turkish troops, which some time ago occupied the place. Tabah is admittedly Egyptian territory and the Sultan's forces not only have been establishing military posts therc, but have threatened the officers of an | Egyptian gunboat who demanded its evacuation. All the local protests being ineffective | | and | Great Britain has now made imperative the Turks refusing to withdraw, representations at Constantinople and a British officer of the Egyptian army has been dispatched from Cairo to the scene | of action. His demands will be backed up by the Diana. ———————— TULARE COUN MINE OWNER MUST FACE SERIOUS CHARGE! Powell Is Accused of Having Made Murderous Assaults on Two of His Neighbors.
