HOSPITAL PATIENTS - FLEE FROM BULLETS Desperate Battle Is Fought by Attendants at Los An- geles Sanitarium. - LOS -ANGELES, Feb. 1.—In & desperate fight - between- attendants at the Bisters Hospltal to-night, Joseph Smith, a porter, was shot and dangerously wounded by Andrew Hortulaney, an Austrian garden- er. The shooting was the cilmination of an old feud, the men having had trouble months ago. Smith .ordered Hortulaney from the servants’ quarters and his orders weré laughed at. A fist fight followed; in which Smith was getting the better of his enemy, when Hortulaney drew a revolver and began shooting. He fired flve shots, one of which took effect in Smith’'s abdo- men. The exact nature of the wound has not been determined. At 2 o'clock this morning the wounded man was still on the operating table. The shooting caused a panic among the nurses and patients, some 'of the latter leaving their beds and trying to get from ‘the buflding. The excitement is surely to be followed by serious consequences to some of them.
