Causes Promising Increased Business Are in Immediate Prospect At an annual meeting of the stock- holders of the Oceanic Steamship Com- pany yesterday the officers and directors of the last year were re-elected. An an- nual report was submitted by John D. Spreckels, president of the company, which is as follow: Your president and board of directors here- with submit their annual report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 1005, and while it will appear from the financlal statement that the real loss as shown, viz: $185.344 82, 15 equal’ to the loss sustained in the orevious year, yet this may be expikined in part by the accident to the steamship Alameda, where- by her services were lost for thres Voyages, entafling en estimated reduction in her earn- ings for the year of $30,000. It will also be noted that the steamship Australis is debited with a loss of $23,022 97, the major portion of which is really an unadfusted account with the underwriters and will be made good in the settigment of the claim against the in- surance company growing out of the capture of_this vessel by the Japanese Government. The vessels comprising the fleet are in good condition, well kept up and are reaping the benefits of the betterments which have cost so much necessary outlay in the past. The general outlook for the Australlan trade is much more hopeful than for years past.
