Two felony indictments were presented toc United States District Judge de Haven yesterday by the Federal Grand Jury, charging Mary Louise Bowen with the crime of embezzlement. The first in- dictment contains two counts, and charges that Miss Bowen on September 30, 1905, while a clerk in Postoffice sta- tion, No. 1, at Oakland, embezzled $270 24, and that on November 1 of the same year she embezzled $153 52. The second indictment charges her with the embezzlement of $318 95 on June 30, 1905, and $63 60 on July 1, 1905. Bail was fixed at $3500 on each indictment. This was furnished by her former bondsmen, C. M. MacGregor and A. J. Snyder of Oakland. Miss Bowen was accompanied te the District Court Clerk’s office by her sister and E. L. Cram, an elderly friend of the family. Two other indictments were also re- turned, and at the request of Assistant United States Attorney A. P. Black were placed on the secret file. It is understood that these indictments ar against Louis Baker, Miss Bowen's recreant lover. Bert Schlesinger and L. S.
