McInnes of Alberni, ‘British Columbia, and a member of the- British Columbia Legislature, has been sworn in at Ottaws as Commis- sioner of Yukon Territory at a salary of $12000 a year. His appointment is re- ceived gladly at Dawson, since it keeps former Governor Congdon in the back- ground even though he be appointed a member of the Yukon Council and its| legal adviser. McInnes will not permit any one to| govern him. He is under 35 years old, be- ing one of the youngest appointees to so | high an office under ‘the British flag: Ten years ago he represented Nanaimo in the British Columbia Parliament and was Provincial Secretary during Dunsmuir's term. REDDING, June 5.—Shasta County people will remonstrate against the bullding of the government irrigation dam in Iron Canyon, near the Tehama County line. They claim a ninety-foot dam would cause the back-water to overfiow valuable farms in Shasta County.
