CHICAGO, April 20.—Influenced by the ex- ceedingly favorable weather, wheat opened a trifie easier, July being off 8414 @¥4%c. For the first considerable selling by pit traders, due to the jmproved weather conditions and to the upresponsive tone of cables, the Liverpool grain market showing only a very small gain iu the face of the decided advance here yes- terday. As a result prices eased off a little, July “touching S4%c. The greater. amount of trading was on the.bull side, and an_improved demand _soon manifested iteelf. Much im- portance was attached to a private crop re- pert issued to-day. According to this author- ity, advices from a sufficfent number of wheat ccunties to be indicative of the general sit- uation show that the average condition of winter wheat is lower than indicated by the April figures. In spite of generally favorable weather, the condition of wheat in Illinols, Missouri and Kaneas is alleged to be slightly lower than a month ago. In addition to the bullish crop news, cash wheat was in urgent a material help to speculative prices. Shorts | were active buyers of the May delivery, ad- vaneing the price of that option about 1%c. | July, in the meantime, sold up to 85%c. The weakness in Butter is becoming more pronounced and it is the generai opinion that the present prices will not hold much longer unless there is a falling off In the receipts. As it is, most of the creamery is selling to large and posted buyers at 18c. ‘Cheese stands the same. Stocks are still excessive. ¥gge are firm at the advance noted yester- day, and some dealers are squeezing a little more out of customers. Receipts are fair and the continued storing prevents an undue ac- cumulation of stock. There was further scattered liquidation for outside accounts, principally in May. Lical support seems hardly so good, local short in- terest having apparently covered freely the past few days.
