J. Lucky for running the ferry-boat Sausalito ashore on Angel Island on November 24. The opinion is as fol- lows: From testimony taken Sausalito, C. her slip at San Francisco at 8:45 p. m., No- vember 24, the weather being foggy, with light wind. When passing Alcatraz Ieland the light was seen and the fog bells at each end of the island were heard. A few minutes after pass- ing Alcatraz, a light on a vessel right ahead. find the ferry-boat heard her on his former trips. When Captain Lucky saw the'light he put his helm hard a-starboard to clear the vessel, then hard a-port to bring the steamer on her course, then starboard again to steady her, when the steamer ran ashore on Angel Island, one-quarter of a mile east of Point Knox. The fog bell at Point Knox was not heard. No land was seen nor echo from the steamer's whistle heard until just as the steame: ruck. ‘The vessel was running at regular fog speed and no signals were given to the engine-room until just as the vessel took the bottom. Captain Lucky testifies that the compass card was so covered that he could only see part of it, and thought the steamer heading W. N. W., the usual course steered from Al- catraz to ‘Sausalito; Instead of which cour she was heading N. N. W. at the time = struck Angel Island. ‘The passengers were taken off by the Caza- dero. The Sausalito made very little water and came off the next morning without as- sistance. After a_careful we are of the opinion that Captain . J. Lucky J.
