SAN JOSE, Oct. 11.—The San Jose-Los Gatos Interurban Electric Raflway stole & march on the protesting property own- ers along Market street, between San Fer- | nando and Santa Clara, early this morn- ing. On Friday the City Store, a corporation, brought suit in the Superior Court to se- cure a permanent injunction against the rallway. It was alleged that the building of the road would be detrimental to its property. It was understood that as soon as the work of construction was com- menced the City Store would apply for a temporary injunction and stop the work. Not wishing to take any chances, the company decided to build the road on Sunday, on which day an injunetion could not be secured or served. About 300 men SEVERS HIS CONNECTION WITH THE ROCK ISLAND General Manager of the sents His Resignation to the Board of Directors. CHICAGO, Oct. 11.—Charles A. Good- now will sever his connection with the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad as general manager at the end of the present month. Though his resignation was forecasted several weeks ago, it was not formally presented until yesterday. Fourth Vice President John F. who recently came to the Rock Island from the Great- Northern, will have charge of the operations and construction, and ft been semi-officially announced that B. Winchell, now vice president and general manager of the St. Louis and San Francisco, is to be third vice presi- dent of the Rock Island and will be given supreme charge of the traffic affairs o all the lines of the system. Winchell it is sald will move from St. Louis to Chicago on November 1. It is also stated that Goodnow’s position as general manager will not be fllled after his retirement. RAILWAY TRAVEL.
