S e s Camden’s Absconding Official Is Said to Be Ill at Baltimore. CAMDEN, N. J., June 18.—Louis T. De- rousee, postmaster of this city and twice Speaker of the New Jersey House of Assembly, who disappeared, has been located at Baltimore. He Is said to be on the verge of a physical and mental col- lapse and is under the care of a physi- cian. Former Judge Pancrast and H. H. Voorhees, Derousse’s bendsmen, are authority for the statement that the pos- tal inspectors have found a shortage of | $2000 in the accounts of the postmaster. Judge Pancrast said to-day that he had been informed that the postmaster had been leading a double life. He summoned Derousse and demanded an explana~ tion, which was not -satisfactory. A meeting of the bondsmen was held last Wednesday and it was decided to notify the postal inspector, who began an ex- amination of the postmaster’s accounts to-day. They are still at work on the books. BALTleRE. June 18.—Louis T. De- rousse, postmaster of Camden, N. J., who disappeared yesterday from that | city, is here at the home of W. H. Swin- dell, a relative. Derousse was seen by a reporter to-day. He appeared to be In a dazed condition. To all questions he sim- ply answered “yes,” being apparently un- able to give an account of himself. The members of the Swindell family say that his mind is evidently affected and nothing is known as to his motive for coming here. United States Marshal Langham- mer says that he has not received any in- structions as to the apprehension of De- rousse. The bondsmen held a meeting to-day and appointed Assistant Postmas- ter C. M. Sayers as acting postmaster, going on his bond for 360,000, the same amount for which they are on Derousse's Sayers refused to discuss the case, saying he would issue a statement as soon as the inpectqrs have finished their investigation. Harrison H. Voorhees, one of the post- master's bondsmen, said: “I am about $1100 out by Derousse’s actions and Idon't know how much more it will be -before the inspectors are through. I was told this morning that so far a shortage of $2000 had been found, but that thirteen sub-stations under Derousse's care had not been investigated. — e Wants Tenant Arrested.
