Up to three vears ago he enjoyed robust health. At that time he suffered a slight attack of paralysis, from which, however, he almost entirely recovered and gave full attention to his H business until a week ago Sunday, when he was taken suddenly ill again and im- mediately relapsed into an unconscious state, from which he only partly rallied at intervals. "By the advice of Dr. Renz he was removed to a sanitarium, where he passed away vesterday morning, sur- rounded by his family. In 1869 Mr. Hadenfeldt was married to Miss Meta Julitz of this city, who sur- vives him. He leaves two sons and three daughters—Mrs. B. Coulter, Miss Joan, Hermann D., Miss Wanda and Carl O, Hadenfeldt. The funeral will probably take place on Wednesday from the family residence, ¥ street. The services will be conducted by the Rev. W. WASHINGTON, June 8.—The Secretary | of the Interior to-day promulgated a new series of rules for the conduct of the Arkansas Hot Springs. They include a provision requiring physicians prescrib- ing the use of the Hot Springs waters to be registered and a bhoard of physicians was appointed to pass on the qualifica- tions ¢f persons making application for license to’practice. A large number of “quacks” have made their way to the springs in recent years, causing many ! complaints to the Secretary. Senators to Visit Alaska. WASHINGTON, June 8.—Senator Dil- { lingham of Vermont has been in Wash- ington the past few days arranging the details of a visit to be made to Alaska by a sub-committee of the Senate Com- mittee on Territories, of which he chairman. The purpose of the visit is to make a general investigation into affairs | in the territory with a view to making recommendations for legislation. Senator Patterson of Colorado will accompany the committee. B Circuit Judge Caldwell Retires, WASHINGTON, June 8.—Attorney Gen- eral Knox to-day received the resignation | of Judge Henry C. Caldwell of the United States Circuit Court of the Eighth Cir- cuit. His home was in Little Rock, Ark. Judge Caldwell retires under the act of Congress which authorizes the retirement of the United States Judges when they have attained the age of 70 years or have | served ten years or more on the bench. —_—————— Consul Ingersoll Dies in Colombia. WASHINGTON, June 8—A cable mes- sage was received at the State Depart- ment to-day saying that John C. Inger- soll, United States Consul at Carthagena, Colombia, died at Colon Saturday. In- gersoll was a native of Illinois and a nephew of the late Colonel Robert G. In- gersoll. The remains will be brought to this city for interment if possible. ——— Only British Subjects to Vote. JACKSON, Ky., June 8.—It is believed that the soldiers guarding the house of B. L. Ewen, the principal witness against Jett and White, prevented his assassina- tion last night. Ewen keeps a hotel. Two { persons claiming to be husband and wife applied last night for lodging and were taken in. Mrs. Ewen was suspicious and asked for additional guards. When the new lodgers were heard moving about in their room the soldiers made an exami- nation and found that both were men. They were turned away and no arrests were made. The soldiers cannot make arrests unless martial law is declared and the county officers are making no arrests for drunkenness or on suspicion. There has been no Town Marshal here since Cockrill was killed. Emerson was let- | ting himself down from the window by | a rope when the rope broke and he fell | | to the ground and was killed.
