Tahiti STRIKE DELAYS LADEN STEAMERS San Pedro Union Ties Up the Noyo and the Lakme. Sympathy With the Fort Bragg Laborers Causes Trouble. —_—— tch to The Call May 18.—The steamers Lakme, both lumber laden, tied up at this port by the ‘members of the local Federal Labor Union. The Noyo arrived this morning | with 176,000 feet of lumber loaded at Fort Brags and consigned to the San Pedro Lumber Company. Out of sympathy yo and have been with the lumber work- crs at Fort Brzgg in their troubles with the Union Lumber Company of San Fran- | cisco, the members of the loczl union re- fused to touch the cargo of the Noyo, and for refusing to work about forty em ployes were discharged this morning b the local superintendent of the San P daro Company. Captain Ellefsen of oyo worked about two hours this after- noon “rough piling” his cargo. using the five sailors and the first and second mates of his vessel, but the saflors. upon re- quest of thelr local agent, stopped work, leaving the Noyo tied up here pending a settlement of the troubles. The lumber workers at Redondo Gave asked for a raise to 20 cents an hour. The cargo of the steamer Lakme was origi- nally consigned to that port, but upon learning of the troubles there she came here. The local union refuses to dis- charge that portion of her cargo origi- nally consigned to Redondo, and so she | is unable to discharge any of her cargo. The San Pedro Lumber Compa has a | force of deputy sherifis protecting its property. A special meeting was held to- night by both the Federal and Sailors’ | unfons. Should a general strike order be 1ssued about 600 men will be involved. | bullding was drop i. e, at moon of p. m. The most interesting ride in America, if not the world, is from Salt Lake City to Denver through Colorado, and it would be a great pity not to go East that way if you have mever been before.
