San Diego has the largest membership, 509; Santa Cruz, second, 333. San Diego initiated the larg- est number of members during the year, The Foresters’ parade this afternoon was participated in by 1000 delegates. George Root was marshal of the first di- vision. The Hastings band led and followed by the members of Santa Cruz Court. In the second division Walter A. Corey was marshal. In this division were the grand officers, who rode in carriages decorated with American flags. They were followed by delegates to the Grand Court numbering nearly 400. The third di- vision was marshaled by Charles B. Peck- ham of Wateonville. It was headed by the Watsonville band. Then foliowed Court Valley Rose of Watsonville. - The members had a rich, green silk banner and with them were about a dozen little Junior Foresters in white duck suits: Following this court came the Soledad Court, bearing a banner. At the Lower Plaza the procession was dismissed, and Mayor Clark gave an address of welcome, turning the city over to the Foresters for this week. C., May 5.—At to-day's session of the commission to Inquire into the deal in connection with the proposed land grants to the Columbia and Western Rallroad, W. J. Taylor, who was acting for the Canadian Pacific Railroad in the matter, charged W. C. Wells,- Commis- sioner of Lands and Works, with having broached the matter of taking a share in a company formed to acquire the South Kootenai lands in question, which are Taylor gave a flat denial to what Wells was alleged to have told ex-Premlier James Dunsmuir at Saturday’s sitting of the inquity. Counsel has been retained by the Government to prosecute the in- quiry into the alleged 'deal. Psi Upsilon Dinner. A dinner will be given under the aus plces of the Pacific Psi Upsilon Union on Saturday, May 9, at 6:30 p. m,, at the California Hotel in this city, to which | prominent members of the Psi Upsilon | fraternity are expected to come fromall over the State. A particularly large | delegation will come from the University of California, in which a new chapter of the fraternity was established last Au- gust. There are many members of the fraternity on this coast whose names are unknown to the secretary of the union, Edward Mills Adams, for the reason that they have come here re- cently and have not made themselves known to him.
