One of the coolest and most barefaced | robberies ever perpetrated in this city ¥as committed by John J. Smith within of the Hall of Justice yes- ¢ afternoon, the victim being Chin a Chinese. Chin had come out of the employment office of C. Chang, 621% California street, about 4 o'clock and was accosteg by Ler of the Chinatown squad. Smith said the Chinese would have to go with him to the City Prison, as he was suspected of sell- ing lottery tickets. { Smith walked with Chin Lung to the Washington-street entrance to the build- ing, but he did not know that he was being followed by C. Al Arens, the amateur welterweight champion boxer of the Pacific Coast, is again under the ban. It is claimed Arens went to Butte, Mont., where on last Mon- duy night he fought a scrapper named Rogers. Rogers quit in the tenth round and the decision was awarded to Arens. The registration committee of the Pa- cific Athletic. Association met last night and decided to take steps immediately against Arens.
