CHICAGO, April 5.—The prices of Call- fornfa citrus fruits after Aptil 10 are to | be arbitrarily fixed for Chicago as well as all other large distributing points by a new combination known as the California Orange Agency. The combination is prac- tically master of the situation, as it con- trols 87 per cent-of the entire crop. It | will show its strength at the outset by the | enforcement of a new swing rule, which stipulates that all sales are to be deliv- | ered, free on board, in California, in car lots only (terms, sight drafts) and no de- liveries made until the goods are paid for. | The buyer is also denied the right of in- | spection, but any differences arjsing from a failure of the fruit to meet the grade | expected will be adjusted by arbitration, | the forms of which are not yet decided on. The prices will be sharply advanced at | once despite the fact that the California | crop is tremendous and 12,000 cars remain | to be sold. Among the large concerns that have gone into the. combination are the Earl Fruit Company, Fay Fruit Com- pany, Ruddock Fruit Company and the California Fruit Exchange. Murder May Have Been Done. SANTA ROSA, April 5.—John Ketchum, a saloon-keeper, of Fort Bragg, was found lying on the floor of a back room in his saloon Friday morning with his throat cut. Indications point strongly to suicide, as the man bhad recently been ill and was despondent, but the Coroner will investigate. Near the body a bloody Jrazor was found, but the fact that a rear | ‘window was open gives rise to the belief that some one may have committed a | murder. RATLWAY TRAVEL. .
