ST TR Metzger, wife of George Metzger, was ended yesterday with a potion of car- bolic acid. The unfortunate woman had been an invalld for about two months, consequent upon a surgical operation, and had been made despondent because her husband refused to give permission for her to visit her mother across the bay. When he left the house yesterday morn- ing at 9:30 o'clock and was standing on the corner waiting for a streetcar, his wife waved her hand and called, “Good- by, George,” from an upper Wwindow. | Something peculiar in her manner led | him to belleve that she contemplated a | rash act and he hurried back to his wife’s | room, only to find her in convuisions. Dr. Weyer of the Park Emergency Hospital was summoned, but he could do nothing and the woman expired shortly after- ward. Mr. and Mrs. Metzger lived at 1419 I | street, between Forty-fifth and Forty- | sixth avenues, in the precinct near the ocean beach known as “Carville.” She was only 24 years old and was the mother of a boy and girl, aged 4 and 7 years re- spectively. Her husband is engaged as a real estate agent in Carville. He told the Coroner's deputies vesterday that |'ever since a surgical operation had been | performed upon his wife on February she had been sick and despondent and was inordinately jealous of him. He said that one day she picked up a scrap of manuscript in the back yard with the word “you" written on it, and that she | quarreled with him about it and accused him of keeping company with other women. He sald also that this quarrel see her mother and that she remained away all night on that occasion. Her slckness and resulting despondency he sanity on her part, in which condition she rashly took her own life. —e News Letter. The Supervisors' Judiciary Committee vesterday considered the communi- catior: of Assessor Dodge asking that action be instituted against the California Powder Company, the Sunset Telephone Company and other corporations fer the collection of back taxes owing to the city. Attorney Plilsbury, who repre- sented the corporations, agreed to report lin one week whether they would pay the unprotested portion of their taxes, allo ing the courts to settle the legality of the assessment in dispute. ————————— Lighting Company Sues City.
