By the explosion of gasoline in a stove this morning at John Rittler's barber shop, 472 Twelfth street, John W. Sweeney, a barber, was severely burned about the face and hands, considerable injury being done to his eyes. Sweeney was about to start the fire in the heater, having lighted a match and applied it to the burner. As he did so & tongue of flame shot into his face, and the explosion that followed scattered the burning fluld over the barber and about the shop, setting the place afire. An alarm was sounded that sent the Fire Department apparatus scurrying to the scene. Before the flames were under headway they were checked. Sweeney was taken to his rooms at Eighth and Washington streets, wuere his burns were dressed. The barber's loss was light. Willlam Duchrau's talloring shop, next door, suf- fered $175 damage.
