Highbinder Wanted for Kill- ing at Walnut Grove Is Captured. —_— Ow. Sing Dock, a rotorlous gunfighter, was arrested yesterday afternoon by De- tectives McMahon and Braig in a Chin- ese laundry on Turk street, near Leaven- worth, and booked at the City Prison on a charge of murder. The detectives found him hiding under an ironing table. He is wanted for the murder of a member of the Ping Kong Tong at Walnut Grove on November 19. He wifll be taken to Sac- ramento for trial. Ow Sing Pock is a member of the Suey Dong Tong. The police say he was the leader ‘of the gang of highbinders that went ta Walnut Grove November 19 to wipe out thesinsult offered to their so- clety @y the raiding of a gambling game operated by it. The rajd was supposed to have been made by the Ping,Kong Tong and the murder of one of its mem- bers followed. This was the commence- ment of the war between these tongs. Since then a Suey Dong man has been shot and killed here and a Ping Kong man serlously if .not fatally wounded. The Chinese Six Companles have been endeavoring to put an end to the war, but ‘without success. A Chinese supposed to'be a member of the Ping Kong Tong drew a revolver upon CI Fong, a member of the Suey Dong Tong, at 25 Brenham place yester- day afternoon, but fled before shooting. The approach of two members of the Chinatown squad caused him to.seek safety in flight. The pelice say that Ow Sing Dock shot and killed, a Chinese doctor in Sacramento about a year ago. He was tried, but the jury disagreed and the case was subse- quently dismissed. They also say that Ow Sing Dock was the instigator of the attempt to murder Watchman Geirge Downey _in Chinatown about three months ago when several shots were fired at him. Keane, secretary of Mayor Schmitz, was the principal witness yes- terday in the trial of the contest of the will of the late Patrick Tuite in Judge Troutt's court. The importance of his testimony was enhanced by the fact that he drew the will. Several other witnesses ‘were examined, their testimony tending mainly to show the habits of the deceased for many months prior to his death and his appkarance during the few weeks im~ mediately preceding his death. &eane testified that the day He drew the will he was summoned to the bedside of Tuite by Mrs. Roncovierl, who tele- phoned for him to the office of A. Ruef, where he was employed. “She called for me about 5:30,” saild Keane, “and I pick- ed up a half sheet of legal paper and went with her to Tuite’s room.” During the cross-examination by Attor- ney Hjram Johnson that followed Keane's descriptien of his visit to the aged migery Keane sald Tuite answered his questions by nods and in monosyllables. “I asked him,” said the witness, “if he did not want to leave his money to Mrs. Ron- covieri and he nodded.” 1 “Did he say anything about his rela- tives, Mr. Keane?’ asked Johnson. “I asked him,” replied Keane, “if he did not’ think he should leave his rela- tives something, say $40 or 30. He nod- ded and I added to the will the ph leaving his relatives $50.” The case was continued unti} to-day. Co-Eds Train for Basket Ball.
