WHEAT—The foreign markets were firm, with higher futures. Chicago advanced from 724c to T3c. The Southwest weré large buyers of May, and Minneapolis reported an exceilent cash demand. This market was very stiff at a further ad- vance, both in cash apd futures. Buyers are serhmbling for Wheat, for all sorts of pur- poses, and the grain Is selling for more than it 1s worth, based on quotations of other mar- kets. There s a demand for Austraila, the shippers are hard up for cargoes for their chartered ships, tne millers are In want of supplies, and there is not enough Wheat of- fering anywhere in the State to eatisty all these demands. The shippers, who had a lot of high-priced ships coming in, tried for a long ilme to keep prices down so that they could get out even, but the market got away from them, and as just said they are now vlylr‘ really more than the grain is worth. t s excited, holders are hanging on m dellh and most operators are pre- 8 frelghts s, 9d, ususl.
