Entire Party Will Drive to the Cliff House This Afternoon. Gove!'nor Ezra P. Savage of Nebraska and his staff were royally entertained yesterday by Mayor Schmitz and other leading citizens. Early in the morning | the entire party were taken for a ride round the bay on the Sea Queen. Mayor Schmitz went to great pains to show them the many points of interest from\ the boat. First a trip to the Union Iron Works was made, then a run down the bay to the Golden Gate. The steamer was taken outside the heads, but in def- erence to the ladies the bow of the boat was turned and smooth water was soon, encountered again inside the bay. The| visitors were shown Sausalito, Angel Isl- and and Belvedere. After luncheon Mayor Schmidt took the | T A aleo distinguished party for a drive to Golden Gate Park. In the evening Chief Witt- man detailed several detectives to show them the mysteries of Chinatown. This morning the party will take a car ride around the city as guest of the United Rallroads and in the afternoon they wiil be taken for a tally-ho ride to the CIiff. The party will leave for the East to-| morrow night. Is One Step Nearer Bay State. Another petition for a writ of habeas corpus in behalf of J. Black, the alleged forger, was denied by the Supreme Court yesterday. It is stated that the prisoner is charged with a crime committed in Springfield, Mass., at the time he was under arrest at the Hall of Justice. An-| other petition Is being prepared, but | Black’s chances of escape from a trip to the Bay State appear rather slim, in | view of the fallure which attended his previous attempts to secure freedom. @ sirbesieierierienferfefesieiimielfefurle ootk @ Shipping Intelligence.
