CHICAGO, May 20.—Most of the influences in the wheat pit favored sellers, and the sup- port from a strong quarter and the comparative firmness of the forelgn markets kept prizcs fairly firm for the first hour. Cables showed a little decline, but were not bearish. Ad- vices did state, however, that there was pres- sure of spot Wheat upon the English market, a great quantity of stuff due to arrive off the coast and fine weather abroad. Buying by a big house that suggested satisfaction with the price brought in a number of tailers and helped prices. For a time corn helped wheat, but it soon became apparent that the bears had the situation in hand again. The wdather in the winter country was warm with rains and in the Northwest clear and warmer. Bears lald great stress on this argument and were thriving on fine crop prospects. Receipts weie increasing. In the way of novelty a car of new Texas wheat was shipped in and on its harvesting the Southwest sold. No additional | export business came to the relief and every- thing slumped. The demlnd for Borfle- was fair and attract- ive lots of all kinds except Gooseberries moved off well. Owing to the scarcity of labor at ‘Watsonville and vicinity, the picking of Ber- ries is retarded and consequently are cuming in overripe, which accounts for the low prices.
