N., In charge AMONG THE CLOUDS. The Toliver Airship Will Soon Chase Them. The great problem of the day and of the air is engaging the sober thought of some of the best people of the world. California will be ‘heard from through the Toliver Aerial Navigation Company, a combination of California men who have made a most auspicious beginning. They have interested many prominent people who are glad to be known among the pro- moters of science. They have patents which experts are taking great interest in. Among_the contributors to the enter- prise is Mrs. Hearst, who, in her broad- mindedness, has donated to the company @ site for Buildings on her premises near Pleasanton, Alameda County. A large crew of workmen have been at work on the buildings for some weeks past and the main building is rapidly tak- ing shape. The Southern Pacific Com- pany has constructed a switch for the accommodation of the company, and lum- ber by the carloads is going out every week. Much enthusiasm prevails among the friends of the enterprise. The stock of the company after June 1 will be sold at 32 50 per share. The model can be seen at 37 Sutter street,San Francisc Their Accounts Differ. Because a Judge of the Superior Court erred in admitting certain evidence, there is a possibility that John Nichols may lose $12,000° which was awarded him in a sult brought against A. W. Randall. Nichols loaned Randall $35,000 in 1883. In 1897 there was a difference of a trifle more than $5%,000 in the accounts kept by the litigants of this transaction. Nichols secured a judgment for a portion of what he claimed was due him in the lower court, but the Supreme Court orders a new trial. —_——— Says Her Father Is Cruel. Julia Campion, who lives at 1126 Howard street, visited Secretary White of the California 8ociety for the Prevention. of Cruelty to Children yesterday and stated that her father was very abusive of her- self and two wounger children. She showed a dangerous looking bludgeon, which she saild her father had made for the rurpose of*beating the members of his family when they proved unruly. —_—— Do You Play Poker?
