Powers of the Retail Grocers’ Advocate returned yesterday from a three months’ trip to Southern California, where he went to organize branches of the Re- tail Grocers' Association. He succeeded in organizing twenty-one branches. In April a convention was held in Los An- geles and a permanent organization was effected under the title of the Affiliated Retall Grocers' Association of Los Ange- Jes. At the close of the convention the jobbers of Los Angeles tendered a banquet to the retailers. Callinan, leader of the Columbia Theater Orchestra, for divorce, filed an answer to her husband’s cross-complaint vesterday, in which she denied the charges made by him. She says she never struck him or raised any.disturbance at the Columbia or that she commenced di- vorce proceedings for the purpose of caus- ing him trouble. George Evans, who is being sued for di- vorce on. the ground of cruelty by Mag- gie Bvans, filed an answer to his wife's suit yesterday. He denies that he ever beat her and alleges that she is not his wife.
