There were numerous bullish incentives and the crowd turned bullish to a.man. Cables started out strong and ad- vanced. This was unexpected and started the upturn. Then came the crop damage scare ttat set every one buying. ‘The rains in the winter wheat belt vesterday, though enough to allay the heat, were reported far from sufficlent to save crops. Added to this came the weather report that freezing temperatures would: prob- ably be reached in some sections of the South- we-* to-night. Receipts also were exceedingly g, ¢ and argued rapidiy decreasing stocks. Higher outside markets augmented the uptur; Reports, both Government and private, per- sisted in the advice that the crops were being badly damaged. The millers’ assoclation of Kansas reported the crop of that State at a condition of 56. Indiana wa% said to be suffer- ing and advices stated that from 20 to 25 per cent of the sown flelds would be plowed up. There was a lot of liquidation for profits on the early advance, but commission house buying started renewed spurts. The wheat traders were seriously aroused over the critical condi- tion of the crop and bought with the convic- tion that there “‘was money in it.”’ Trade was enormous, possibly as large as on the big bull campaign last December. There was practical- 4 Wheat and Other Grains. ‘WHEAT—Liverpool futures were higher and French futures weak. The weather was decidedly unfavorable over the wheat area yestérday and Chicago reflected it by advancing from 74%c to 76%¢c. The mar- ket was very stiff, with light offerings. South- west damage reports were more numerous and emphatic. Buying was excellent, the Southwest purchasing heavily, St. Louls leading. The | Southwestern exporters were also liberal buy- ers. Minneapolis reported stocks there decreas- ing at the rate of 100,000 bushels per day. The weather was cool and cloudy at Chicago and clear in the West, with frosts predicted over a large area. It was this that gave the, ginger to the market. Tuesday's showers turned out light, one-third of an inch being the heaviest fall anywhere. There was a foot of ow in the Red River Valley and the Western and Southwestern showers were followed by frost and cold high winds. This market sympathized with the others and was higher all around, with more business. Spot Wheat—Shipping, §1 1134@1 12%; mill- ing, $1 134 @1 15 per ctl. CALL BOARD SALES.
